The demand for uprated Diesel hybrid turbos continues.

We have recently developed a new hybrid for the 150hp Vauxhall Astra and Vectra models.

The hybrid (part number S227)  increases low-down torque, and improves efficiency across the rev range, assisted by the variable vane mechanism.

Please check our turbocharger catalogue for full application details, or contact our Turbo Sales team to discuss your individual requirements.

X-trail upgrade

The Nissan X-trail DCi turbo has recently been scrutinised by the TT technicians, who have developed a hybrid version of the VNT unit. Part number S224 is a direct replacement for the 727477 Garrett turbo, but is considerably more durable, due to the use of heavier-duty components. This upgrade is also compatible with the Nissan Almera and Primera 2.2 DCi models (124HP engine YD22DDTI).

Depending on the condition of the donor turbo, it may be possible to upgrade the original turbo, but a full inspection will be necessary before this can be confirmed. Otherwise, a complete replacement turbo can be supplied.

Please check our turbocharger catalogue for full application details, or contact our Turbo Sales team to discuss your individual requirements.

Electronic actuators

We now have the ability to offer a checking and calibration service, not only for pressure and vacuum turbocharger actuators, but also for the latest electronic versions.

Electronic actuators are becoming more prevalent on newer vehicles, and they need to be fully functional so that engine management systems do not receive the wrong signals, and put the car into “limp home” mode. Turbo Technics have the know-how to check the actuator’s characteristics, to ensure that it is working correctly with your turbo and vehicle electronics.

We are continuing to develop our in-house turbo diagnostics facilities – please contact us for full details.

Land Rover TD5 VNT Conversions

Td5 Variable Geometry Turbo Conversion is the world’s first bolt on Variable Geometry Turbo conversion for all Td5 powered Land Rovers.
So what’s special about a Variable Geometry Turbo? All turbos are a method of forced induction – i.e. forcing a greater mass of air into an engine.  A conventional turbo consists of two main parts – a turbine (driven by the exhaust gas from the engine) and a compressor wheel (driven from the turbine wheel via shaft).
A turbocharger needs to be exactly matched to an engine to ensure it works correctly. In simple terms, if the turbo is too big, you will get turbo lag due to the time taken for the exhaust gas to spin the turbine wheel fast enough to produce useable ‘boosted’ pressure.
If the turbo used is too small, then it will be spinning too fast (thus damaging the turbo due to over-speeding) and it will also ‘throttle’ the engine as it will not be able to supply the volume of air required. However at low speeds you will have next to no turbo lag.
As is often the case, turbo selection is always a compromise – you want a big turbo so you will be able to compress more air – thus get more power, but at the same time, if you go too big, you will induce turbo lag. But then if you go too small, you will restrict engine performance.
A Variable Geometry Turbo is basically a turbo that can adjust itself internally. So now you have the turbine wheel, the compressor wheel, and a set of vanes that direct gas flow around the turbine wheel.  At low engine speeds (when the engine will be exhausting less gas) a Variable Geometry Turbo acts like a small turbo, so makes full use of the lower volume and lower speed of the gas being ‘exhausted’ by the engine. This means you make full turbo boost pressure at much lower engine RPM – which, when matched with correct fuelling – dramatically changes you low speed torque, and ultimately how your Land Rover drives at low speeds.
As engine speed (and load) increases, the turbo adjusts its internal vanes to slow the speed of the turbine wheel down, but at the same time ensuring that it still spins fast enough to ensure the compressor does its job (i.e. making the required boost pressure). By doing this it ensures that the turbine does not over-speed.
Our Variable Geometry Turbo conversion doesn’t just make a difference at low speed though, a Variable Geometry Turbo ensures that the turbo is always working at its optimum setting regardless of load/engine speed (RPM) – this means that turbo lag becomes none existent. You put your foot down, and instantly you will feel the effects!! This can never be obtained with a standard Fixed Geometry Turbo.

This turbo kit is priced at only £700 + VAT including all the required gaskets/seals.  This is based on an exchange for your old standard Td5 Turbo. A £75 surcharge will be charged until we receive your old turbo, which must be complete and in working order.

Please contact us for full details.

New Astra turbos

Vauxhall Astra GSi and VXR turbos

Two uprated turbochargers have now been developed for the Vauxhall Astra GSi and VXR models.

Standard turbos are very susceptible to thrust bearing damage.
If the engine has been tuned or chipped, this is even more likely to occur. Due to our new design these turbos are less prone to damage from increased pressure, as the bearing itself is rated to handle up to 22PSI (1.5 Bar)
These are direct replacements for the original KKK units, as shown below:

KKK number TT number
Astra / Zafira GSi 5304-970-0024 TT820
Astra VXR 5304-970-0049 TT822

The above turbos are covered by our two year warranty.

NEW! Vane Flow Test Rig

Turbo Technics are pleased to announce the launch of it’s Vane Flow Test Rig or VTR.

After several years of development and in-house use, Turbo Technics are pleased to announce that they will be making their vane-flow test rig (VTR) commercially available.

The Turbo Technics VTR has been developed as part of a remanufacturing programme for OE variable geometry turbos specifically for vehicle manufacturers.

The same technology is now available in the aftermarket to meet the needs of an ever growing demand from within the turbo repair and remanufacturing industry for variable geometry turbos.

The VTR is designed to re-calibrate the flow of variable geometry turbos to the manufacturers’ original specifications. Remanufacturers and repairers can now have the confidence to rebuild turbos fitted with variable geometry mechanisms in the knowledge that they can now reset those mechanisms to OE equivalent settings.

The VTR can control both pressure and vacuum actuators as standard with plug-in electronic actuator drivers available as additional items.

The VTR will be a launched at the Rematec show which runs from the 16th – 18th June.
Visit us on stand 11.222 to see the VTR in action.
